Four Vanier College student athletes win bursaries from La Fondation Sport-Études

Montreal, May 12, 2015. Vanier College is proud to congratulate four outstanding Sport-Études student athletes who were awarded bursaries from La Fondation Sport-Études at a reception on May 8, 2015 held at the Molson Coors Brewery.

Synchronized swimmer and Vanier Social Science student Jaqueline Simoneau won a $2,500 RDS bursary. Jacqueline Simoneau is a member of Canada's Senior National Synchronized Swimming team and will be competing at the Pan American games this summer as well as the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro next year. Later down the road, Jacqueline plans to study Medicine.

Figure skater and Science student Andrew Meng won a $1,000 RDS bursary. Andrew Meng who competes in Ice dance with his sister Melinda is on the Canadian national team and hopes to be chosen to compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Andrew plans to go into Medicine.

Soccer player and Social Science student Marie Levasseur won a $1,000 RDS bursary. Marie, who started playing soccer at the age of four, represented Canada at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2014.

Marie’s twin sister, soccer player and Social Science student Catherine Levasseur won a $1,500 SRAM bursary. Catherine was also named to the U-17 Youth National Team pool. In February 2015, both Levasseur sisters signed national letters of intent with the University of Memphis Women's soccer team, and are getting ready to suit up for the Memphis Tigers – Division 1 NCAA, next September.

Every year La Fondation Sport-Études supports young athletes who excel in their sport while pursuing their studies. Thanks to partnerships with various companies and organizations, more than $130,000 worth of bursaries was awarded to student athletes throughout the province in 2014-2015.
